Dynamic Ideas is based in Waltham, MA, and is led by Professor Dimitris Bertsimas, an MIT dean, serial entrepreneur, and one of the foremost thought leaders in optimization and operations research. We are supported by a well-established and highly successful Board of Directors. Dynamic Ideas does business internationally and has multiple overseas software development teams.
This role will support two particular divisions within the Dynamic Ideas business network: AlphaRoute provides dynamic, end-to-end software, advanced analytics, and sophisticated consulting support to help school bus and transit agencies optimize their daily operations. Holistic Hospital Optimization, or H2O, provides similar software and services to help hospitals and related medical facilities to optimize their operations, in areas such as nurse scheduling, operating room availability, and patients’ length of stay. Both of these divisions promote broader societal goals and their innovative solutions can save millions of dollars for their clients. Both are poised for rapid growth.
The Role in Brief
We are looking for an experienced and hands-on DevOps Engineer to help manage our deployment infrastructure, ensure software reliability and scalability, improve developer workflows, liaise with our skilled overseas development teams, and oversee data security and compliance across a range of software products. The role comes at a critical time in our organization’s trajectory, as we need a talented individual to help bring our software to the next level, ultimately driving significant value for our customers and revenue for our business. The role will report to Dynamic Ideas’ Lead Data Scientist and will have direct and frequent communications with the organization’s CEO, its full data science team, and a group of nearly 40 overseas developers.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
- 3+ years’ hands-on professional experience in a DevOps role
- Strong technical skills, including coding across multiple languages and technology
architecting
- Proficiency in scripting and automation
- Experience with CI/CD tools (BitBucket, GitLab)
- Strong experience with AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS, ECS/EKS, IAM, CloudWatch,
etc.)
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g., Terraform)
- Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes a plus)
- Experience with both front- and back-end development
- Solid understanding of software security practices and compliance requirements (e.g.,
SOC 2, GDPR, etc.)
- Demonstrated relationship-building and communication skills
- Ability to work in a deadline-driven work environment, tactfully balancing a range of
sometimes competing priorities

Responsibilities
- Plan and manage all software feature and version releases, alongside Lead Data
Scientist and dev team leadership
- Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines to ensure fast, reliable, and secure
delivery of features.
- Own the infrastructure strategy using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (e.g.,
Terraform)
- Monitor systems for availability, performance, and security; implement automated
alerting and logging solutions (e.g., CloudWatch, Datadog)
- Manage AWS environments, ensuring cost-effective, secure, and scalable
configurations
- Implement and maintain containerization solutions (e.g., Docker) and coordinate with
teams on orchestration (e.g., ECS, Kubernetes)
- Handle secrets and configuration management (e.g., AWS Secrets Manager)
- Participate in incident response and root cause analysis
- Manage conversion of all stage software files to production environment, ensuring full
testing and reliability in advance
- Help to coordinate all overseas software development activities and timelines
- Assist with ongoing software quality control, including ad hoc QC practices and robust
automated testing
- Manage AWS and in-house servers and accounts
- Oversee SOC2 compliance including security practices, access controls, and audit
preparedness
- Assist with general and related technology needs

The DevOps Engineer position will be based in our Waltham office outside of Boston. The role may entail periodic travel to our overseas development team locations.
