Network Engineer designs, implements, maintains, and secures complex networks (LAN/WAN) using Cisco tech, focusing heavily on firewalls, VPNs, and access control to protect against cyber threats, involving daily tasks like security monitoring, incident response, policy enforcement, and ensuring compliance, blending traditional network engineering with deep cybersecurity expertise.
Key Responsibilities & Skills
- Securing Devices: Configuring and maintaining firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS on routers, switches, and appliances.
- Policy & Design: Developing security policies, testing vulnerabilities, and ensuring business continuity.
- Monitoring & Response: Using tools to monitor threats, responding to incidents, and ensuring compliance.
- Advanced Concepts: Working with cloud security, endpoint protection, and automation.
Core Responsibilities
- Network Design & Implementation: Architecting and deploying secure network infrastructures (routers, switches, firewalls) using Cisco hardware and software.
- Security Configuration: Configuring and managing security features like ACLs, VPNs (IPsec, SSL), (NAT), (DHCP), and (DNS) for secure data flow.
- Monitoring & Analysis: Proactively monitoring network traffic for anomalies, threats, and performance issues using tools like (Stealthwatch) or (FMC).
- Incident Response: Investigating, containing, and resolving security breaches and network incidents, often involving advanced troubleshooting of complex issues.
- Policy & Compliance: Developing, enforcing, and auditing network security policies, ensuring adherence to industry standards (PCI, HIPAA) and internal governance.
