Data Engineer / Analytics Consultant

As a Data Engineer / Analytics Consultant at McKee-Nix & Associates, you will build and maintain data systems that provide actionable insights for sales, operations, and business leadership. You’ll work with internal teams across the plumbing and mechanical distribution business to design data pipelines, enable advanced analytics, and help drive data-driven decisions that improve efficiency, forecasting, and growth.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and manage data pipelines (ETL/ELT) to gather data from source systems such as sales, CRM, inventory, and operations.
Build and maintain data storage solutions (data warehouse or data lake) to handle structured and semi-structured data.
Create data models that support business reporting, forecasting, and trend analysis (e.g., sales trends, inventory demand, regional performance).
Ensure data quality, consistency, and integrity through validation, cleansing, and transformation processes.
Develop dashboards, reports, and visualizations to present key performance indicators (KPIs) and insights to stakeholders, including sales leadership, operations, and finance.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (sales, operations, finance) to identify analytics needs and translate business requirements into data solutions.
Monitor performance of data systems, troubleshoot issues, and optimize for both speed and reliability.
Establish and enforce data governance standards, including documentation, metadata management, and data lineage.
Train internal teams on how to use analytics tools and dashboards, fostering a data-literate culture.
Investigate and recommend new data tools, frameworks, and best practices to continuously improve the data architecture.
RequirementsBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
At least 3 years of experience in data engineering or analytics.
Strong proficiency in SQL for querying and data modeling.
Experience with data pipeline tools and frameworks (for example, Python, Airflow, or similar).
Experience with data storage technologies (warehouses, data lakes, cloud storage).
Familiarity with business intelligence / reporting tools (such as Tableau, Power BI, or equivalent).
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate business problems into data requirements.
Strong communication skills to work with both technical teams and business stakeholders.
Experience implementing data governance practices or documentation processes.
